Marine Litter and the use of bioplastics – Knowledge Transfer event and Exhibition

Starting on September 26th, 2023, in Dubrovnik, Croatia, SeaTecHub took the spotlight as it was prominently featured during a crucial knowledge transfer event centered around bioplastics within the H2020 SEALIVE project (www.sealive.eu). This significant event, jointly hosted by AKTI and ISOTECH Ltd— SeaTecHub Cypriot partners as well as in the SEALIVE project—alongside Croatian NGO Maritimo Recycling, showcased the innovative strides in sustainable practices and marine conservation.

With a keen focus on bioplastics, the workshop engaged around 60 stakeholders, representing public authorities, NGOs, industry players, and academia. As the journey extended to Kumbor, Montenegro, on September 28th, 2023, during Breaking the Surface Workshop (BtS), the exchange of insights and ideas continued to resonate.

During BtS, Dr. Xenia Loizidou, from AKTI, focused on the issue of marine litter and specifically about the importance of citizen science for marine litter monitoring and on the role of novel materials that can replace some of the most common culprits of marine and terrestrial plastic pollution. The novel products developed by the SEALIVE project were presented in a knowledge transfer event and exhibition, which included the recording of the participants views and opinions.

This cross-border initiative stands as a testament to our commitment to driving positive change and fostering environmental awareness. Join us on this journey as SeaTecHub continues to make waves in sustainable solutions!
